What is a CPDT-KA?

The Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA®) certification measures a broad range of knowledge and skills in ethology, learning theory, dog training technique, and instruction. To earn this certification, trainers must have a minimum of 300 hours experience in dog training in the past 3 years, along with an signed attestation from a CCPDT certificant or veterinarian.

The CPDT-KA® certificate is administered by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers® (CCPDT®). The CCPDT®, established in 2001, is the leading independent certifying organization for the dog training profession. The CCPDT is the leader in the development of rigorous exams to demonstrate mastery of humane, science-based dog training practices. Thousands of dog training professionals worldwide maintain the CCPDT’s certifications as a mark of high professional distinction.

What is an ABCDT?

The Animal Behavior College’s Dog Trainer Certification Program teaches students the theoretical and scientific principles of canine behavior and training. The curriculum focuses on creating a canine-human relationship built on positive reinforcement training methods. Topics include treatment plans for problematic behaviors, basic training cues, training philosophies, safety and more. The Dog Training Program includes invaluable hands-on training with a professional ABC Mentor Trainer. Students who graduate become ABC Certified Dog Trainers (ABCDT) and can proudly use this designation.

What is a Fear Free® Certified Professional?

To prevent and alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress in pets is the mission of the Fear Free® Trainer. A Fear Free® Certified Professional puts the emotional wellbeing of pets first and foremost when creating a training plan. To earn and maintain the Fear Free® Certification, a trainer must complete education relating to reducing fear, anxiety and stress in pets and must complete continuing education every year.
